There are a number of herbs which are astringent in nature and can be used with success in face packs for
an oily skin. The best of these include chamomile flowers, yarrow flowers and leaves, nettle, sage and
CHAMOMILE FLOWER PACK WITH YARROW, CARROT AND EGG WHITE
Mix together 1 medium carrot, finely grated, 1 beaten egg white and 1 or 2 tablespoons of a strong infusion of
chamomile flowers and yarrow leaves or flowers. Pour a cupful of boiling water over 3 teaspoons each of
chamomile and yarrow and leave to cool. Spread the mixture over the face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove and rinse with warm water then dab with cold water. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
PARSLEY PACK WITH EGG OR YOGURT
This is a very good face pack for those with an excessively oily skin. Wash a large bunch of parsley, chop it
roughly and purée in a blender with enough boiled water to prevent the machine jamming. Alternatively,
a juice extractor may be used. If neither of these is available, make a strong infusion by pouring a cupful
of boiling water over 3 tablespoons of chopped parsley. Mix the juice with an equal quantity of egg white or
natural (unflavored) yogurt and smooth on to the skin. Leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the pack and rinse
the skin with cold water. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
NETTLE, MILK AND OATMEAL PACK
Mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with enough milk to make a thick paste. Add sufficient nettle juice to make the paste easy to spread. Express the nettle juice by means of a blender or juice extractor, or use a strong infusion made by pouring a capful of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of chopped leaves and steams. Spread the paste over the skin and leave for 15 minutes. Remove the pack and rinse with cold water. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
YARROW AND DRIED MILK PACK WITH HONEY AND EGG
Mix 2 teaspoons of dried milk with 1 teaspoon of make a thick paste. Add sufficient nettle juice to make honey. Add 2 tablespoons of strong yarrow infusion the paste easy to spread. Express the nettle juice by made by pouring a cupful of boiling water over 2 tablespoons of yarrow leaves and fowers. Whip up thewhite of 1 egg to a froth and add to the mixture, blending well. Smooth the pack over the skin and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water followed bya dab of cold water. Pat dry and apply a light film of moisturizer.
PEPPERMINT, EGG, LEMON AND CUCUMBER PACK
Purée in a blender 1 egg white, half a cucumber, peeled and roughly chopped, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and a
small handful of freshly picked peppermint leaves. Spread the mixture over the skin and leave for 10 to
15 minutes, during which time a pleasant tingling sensation will be felt. Remove the pack and bathe the
face with tepid water. Pat dry with a soft towel and smooth on a little moisturizer.
SAGE PACK WITH MILK AND ALUM
Make a strong infusion of sage by pouring a cupful of boiling water on to 2 tablespoons of chopped sage and leaving it for 15 minutes. Strain the infusion and leave to cool. To 1 tablespoon of sage infusion add 2 tablespoons of milk and a pinch of alum. Spread the pack over the face and leave for 10 minutes.
